UEP20122 – Certificate II in ESI Generation – Operations Support
Description
This qualification provides the skill and knowledge to work in the electricity supply industry (ESI) to perform Operations Support functions.
This qualification covers operation of non-critical generation plant systems, lubricating generation plant and performing minor maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment. It also includes cleaning power generation plant, operating mobile load shifting equipment and observing safe working practices in the workplace.
Packaging Rules and Requirements
A total of 360 weighting points comprising:
- 140 core weighting points listed in the packaging rules; plus
- 220 general elective weighting points from the general elective units listed in the packaging rules.
A total of 220 weighting points elective units are to be selected from the list in the packaging rules, of which between 0 and 60 weighting points can be taken from Group A; and between 160 and 220 weighting points taken from Group B. All elective units may be selected from Group B.
This qualification is designed to meet the packaging rules and comprises;
- 47 units units in total including:
- 6 core units of competency (all Core Units that total 140 points)
- 41 elective units of competency
Target learner group
Employees of network asset owners, contractors and sub-contractors in electricity Generation, Transmission and Distribution training towards UEP20118 – Certificate II in ESI – Generation – Operations Support.

Equipment & PPE
Learners are required to have the following to participate in this course:
- Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. Hard Hat, Safety Footwear, Approved Hi-Vis Clothing, Safety Glasses)
- Stationary (e.g. Pen, Pencil, etc.)
Assessment approach
Learners will be assessed using a combination of the following methods:
- Theory/Written Assessment (e.g. Short Answer Questions, Multiple Choice, Verbal Questioning Interview)
- Direct Observation/Practical Assessment (e.g. Workplace, Simulated Environment, Role Play/Scenario)
- Portfolio (e.g. Logbook, Third Party Reports)
Course Entry Requirements
To participate in this course, participants are required to:
- have current certification in the required prerequisites.
- be literate in spoken English and competent in reading, writing, and numeracy.
- be sufficiently fit to participate.
