This unit is intended for people working in or entering roles where manual tree felling is required, including arboriculture, forestry, agriculture, land management, parks and conservation, and vegetation control. It suits new entrants building foundational skills as well as existing workers needing to formalise or update their capabilities.

Learners are typically physically capable of outdoor work, have basic chainsaw knowledge, and can follow safety instructions and communicate effectively in a team environment.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

• Assess trees and the worksite to identify hazards, tree characteristics, and environmental factors that influence safe felling.
• Plan manual felling operations by selecting suitable equipment, PPE, and safe cutting approaches.
• Apply correct felling techniques to control the direction of fall and maintain safety throughout the process.
• Manage risks and respond to unexpected situations, including problem trees and changing conditions.
• Work safely and responsibly, following workplace procedures, environmental requirements, and relevant legislation.

Learners will be assessed using a combination of the following methods:

• Theory/Written Assessment
• Direct Observation/Practical Assessment

Nationally recognised training.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a statement of attainment.
